Updates from Pudding & Ten Mile Creeks

Pudding Creek Bridge Replacement: Done in conjunction with the Mallory Gulch Timber Harvest Plan. This photo was taken after the railcar bridge was replaced. Heavy equipment operation was confined to the running surface of the existing haul road. Rip-rap was installed to preclude bank stabilization. In addition to this project, another log stringer bridge downstream of the one shown here was also replaced on the same haul road adjacent to Pudding Creek. Pudding Creek supports populations of both coho salmon and steelhead.

Ten Mile River - Gulch 3 Bridge Installation: Before the bridge was put in on Gulch 3, the creek passed through a culvert under the main Ten Mile haul road, causing another artificial barrier to juvenile migration--and possibly to adult migration as well. The seventy-one foot long culvert, due to its narrow diameter and somewhat excessive gradient, appeared to be a velocity barrier to juveniles (and also for adults during high flows). Whether this gulch historically suppported a viable samon poplulation is unclear, but judging from similar creeks in the area that do support at least steelhead populations, it seems likely that Gulch 3 did.
