The local TU chapters make up the backbone of the grassroots volunteer efforts of the organization as a whole. They concentrate on their home watersheds and issues and report 'up' if assistance is needed. California chapters and their challenges are as diverse as our population; fighting issues ranging from the toll roads encroachment in Orange County, (southern California) to the gravel operations in Del Norte &Sonoma Counties, (northern California) to the OHV threats to the Roadless Act (statewide). Chapters strive for a balance of our three main agendas: restoration, education and advocacy. Many chapters have annual youth fishing events and Trout or Steelhead in the Classroom, teaching outdoor ethics and showing our next generation why salmonoid populations are important.
